The Port of Newport lies at the mouth of the River Usk in South East Wales.
It is the largest of the enclosed dock systems operated by Associated British Ports in South Wales. It handles in excess of 3 million tonnes per annum.
The Port can accommodate vessels up to 40,000 Dwt with a length of 224 metres and a beam of 30.1 metres on a 10.5 metre draught.
It is equipped with 11 quayside cranes with capacity ranging from 6 to 25 tonnes and has 3 mobile Harbour Cranes of 45 tonnes capacity.
Cargo Services (UK) Ltd has operated in the Port of Newport in recent years with both of its companies Cargo Services (Stevedoring) Ltd and Cargo Services (Shipping & Trading) Ltd handling mainly cargoes of Steel products such as steel beams, pipes, coils, slabs and re-bar. It has also handled bulk cargoes of pumice as well as specialised heavy lift products for the nearby steel works in Llanwern.
