Cargo Services (UK) Ltd. was founded in 1995 when a management buyout of Ryan Transport Ltd. was effected, followed two years later by the setting up of Cardiff Stevedoring & Cargo Handling Co.Ltd. In 1999 Cargo Services took over timber and dunnage merchants Wm.Shapland & Sons Ltd. (Est.1840) and in 2004 began operating its own private port at Bird Port on the River Usk in Newport.
The company has port based branches throughout South Wales at Newport, Cardiff, Barry. Port Talbot & Swansea, as well as a transport arm at Bewdley in the Midlands.
The company currently employs a total of 92 staff across the whole organisation.
Group turnover in the three year period 2010-2012 averaged £14m.
Cargo Services are the appointed ports logistics provider for South Wales leading steel producers TATA Steel (UK) and CELSA Steel (UK). Amongst its other major customers are Tarmac, Larfarge, Rockwool and Travis Perkins.
