Cargo Services (SIMEC Bird Port) Ltd
Bird Port SIMEC is a privately run Port located on the River Usk in South East Wales and has been operated by the Cargo Services Group since 2004.
It has the distinction of being the nearest South Wales Port to the Midlands and is less then 2 miles from the M4 and M5 Motorway network.
The main feature of the Port are the two unique 43 tonne & 35 tonne capacity Goliath Gantry Cranes which span the dock, and can achieve a high output performance vessels around quicker than anywhere else in the UK.
The ultra modern coil warehouse complex is equipped with 3 separate coil gantry cranes with electrically operated lifting tongs, each capable of handling coils up to 28 tonnes piece weight.
The Port offers the flexibility with round the clock working for both vessel and warehousing work, and boasts the best value for money services for its customers.
April 2010 saw the opening of an all weather steel handling facility for the Bird Port rail head where rail wagons can be loaded and unloaded undercover and protected from the weather elements at all times.
Bird Port has been ISO 9001 accredited since 2002 and is proud of the high standards and quality of safety and performance it has attained which has been duly recognised recently by the two leading South Wales Steel Producers in Celsa Steel UK and Tata Steel respectively.
An all weather steel handling facility for the Bird Port dock opened August 2014. Vessels can be handled in all types of weather conditions without disruption.
